Kindness is paramount, says award-winning agent

Agents who carry themselves in a kind and professional manner can expect results, one of Australia’s most highly commended real estate professionals has said.

“Professionalism and kindness is something I regard with the upmost importance," Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) residential sales person of the year 2011 and director at Fletchers Canterbury, Tim Heavyside, told Real Estate Business today.

"I believe my success really has a lot to do with way I carry myself and do business,” he said.

Mr Heavyside secured his third REIV residential salesperson of the year award, and second in a row, and it follows his Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) award victory in the same category earlier this year.

Mr Heavyside humbly thanked Fletchers management and staff for their support, and said he was honoured to receive recognition from the industry and his peers.

“The essence of what we do is simple; if you work part time you can expect part time results. In order to succeed and achieve the results you desire, it will require a lot of hard work,” he said.

“There is no silver bullet or simple solution to our profession. For me it’s a matter of focusing on all the little things, as all the little things form the bigger picture.”

But at the heart of Mr Heavyside’s success is kindness.

“I know it may sound sappy, but I honestly believe if you treat people in a professional and kind manner you will achieve better results."

hockingstuart was nominated for 11 of the 25 categories, with the innovation, community service and corporate promotion awards granted to the network as well as individual awards taken out by hockingstuart branches and agents.

hockingstuart chief executive Nigel O’Neil said the business was honoured to have received such high recognition amongst its peers.

“These wins reflect our commitment to delivering results for our customers and our focus on setting new industry standards in innovation, community service and corporate promotion, and we’re proud to be recognised as industry leaders in these areas," he said. "It’s also testament to the hard work and dedication of our individual offices and staff, who were also all honoured in last night’s awards.”

The 2011 REIV Annual Awards for Excellence were held last night at the Crown Palladium.

REIV President, Trevor Booth congratulated the winners, saying that they represented the best individuals and agencies in Victorian real estate.

"They have set an example that other real estate agents and agencies can aspire to,” Mr Booth said.

"On behalf of the REIV, I congratulate the winners and thank all those who entered.”

The REIV award winners were:
