“One of my goals is to improve the professionalism of the real estate industry,” L. Janusz Hooker, chief executive of LJ Hooker, said.

“Through the partnership with Bond University, LJ Hooker will produce degree-qualified agents with invaluable expertise of the growing importance of sustainability, energy efficiency and the impact on real estate.”

The partnership will see agents study at Bond University’s Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture, which works in collaboration with domestic and international industry organisations to deliver sustainable development, research and investment.

“In recent years, organisations have been implementing responsible and practical sustainability management initiatives into their business practices,” said Dr George Earl, the director of the Institute, and Professor of Real Estate.

“At the Institute, we are partnering with LJ Hooker to establish executive pathway education programs and research collaboration initiatives in the areas of sustainability and real estate.”

Mr Hooker said the arrangement would include research collaboration, the exchange of academics and industry experts and professional development programs for agents.

The announcement comes not long after Raine & Horne chief executive Angus Raine backed the proposed Nationwide Home Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

“With homeowners facing the onerous prospect of higher energy charges, any initiative aimed at making homes more environmentally friendly and therefore hopefully cheaper to run should be commended,” Mr Raine told Real Estate Business.
