Agency start ups may be easier with larger franchise groups but the freedom inherent with running an independent office won out for a recent award winner in northern Western Australia.

“Starting a standalone name and brand is not without its challenges and requires unwavering and longstanding commitment to branding and marketing across many facets of the business,”said Ryan Crawford, director of Crawford Realty, which has offices in South Hedland, Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman.

Mr Crawford decided to join the Ausnet Real Estate Group - a network of independent real estate agents in WA - based on the freedom it gave him to “engage our local market with services and an approach that was quite different to what was currently on offer.”

Agencies in Ausnet's network sold more than 3,700 properties worth more $1.6 billion last year.

At the December 2011 AUSNET awards, Crawford Realty, finished top in five categories.

“Winning the Ausnet awards and being recognized on a state level has proven extremely beneficial for our business network,” he said.

“They not only gain us state-wide recognition throughout our industry but also contribute to the reputation for professionalism and service delivery that we have worked hard to create in the regions we service.”

Kurt Wallace, from Crawford's Newman office, won the sales award for top principal; Hayden Crawford took out the top individual sales award; and the top individual listings award was won by David Rowe of Crawford's South Hedland office. In addition, Newman won the 'challenge trophy' for property management, while south hedland won the challenge trophy for property sales.

Ausnet said it provides members with "modern" business procedures, staff training, awards recognition, business support, and the benefits of group friendship and purchasing power, which may otherwise be unavailable to those outside the franchise or marketing organisations.

The Real Estate Institute of WA (REIWA) has also recognised Ausnet as their top listing and selling group in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
