Place Estate Agents won its fourth consecutive large agency gong at last week’s Real Estate Institute of Qld (REIQ) annual awards, bucking a trend that saw first-time winners dominate proceedings.

More than 430 agents from across the state attended the REIQ’s ‘Awards for Excellence’, which saw winners announced for 15 different categories.

A number of first-time winners were recognised this year, including in the hotly-contested residential agency of the year awards, with Dowling & Neylan Real Estate from Noosa Heads being named the Best Medium Residential Agency of the Year, and Townsville Rentals Pty Ltd picking up the Best Small Residential Agency of the Year.

Place Estate Agents of Brisbane was named the Best Large Residential Agency of the Year for the fourth consecutive time.

Jason Andrew from Jason Andrew Auctioneers was named the 2012 REIQ Auctioneer of the Year. This was the seventh consecutive year Mr Andrew was a finalist in the awards, and the second time he has taken away the top spot, making him one of only three people in the history of the award to have won more than once.

Mr Andrew, who also won the Australasian Auctioneering Champion of 2010, said while he was proud to have won the award, it was the last year he will participate in the competition.

“Going forward, I will be focusing on the growth of my own business as well as helping the next crop of auctioneers who are coming up through the ranks,” he said.

“I will be working closely with the REIQ to make the competition even bigger and better.”
The company said its most recent quarterly data shows that JAA now conducts 18% of all auctions conducted across the South East Queensland region.

REIQ CEO Anton Kardash said it was great to see the state’s “finest real estate professionals” come together on the night.

‘‘This year’s winners are fine examples of what commitment to best practice, customer service and innovation can achieve, even in tough market conditions, and I congratulate each and every one of them on their achievements,” he said.

Individual and agency winners will automatically progress into the 2012 National Awards for Excellence in Darwin in March.
