Harcourts International's sales grew by $1.8bn in the 2011 financial year with fewer offices, the company has reported.

“For the first time in over 10 years, Harcourts finished the 2011 financial year with fewer offices and staff than the previous year however we achieved $20.9 billion in written sales – a record figure for our group and $1.8 billion up on our 2010 figures,” Harcourts International managing director, Mike Green, said in his opening address at the group’s annual conference.

“Here in Australia, Harcourts New South Wales grew their business by 77 per cent on last year, Harcourts Tasmania increased their figures by 23 per cent, and Harcourts Western Australia’s figures increased by 21 per cent.

“In one of the most challenging years within the property market, we’ve seen the Harcourts business grow by six per cent across Australia and have significantly increased our total market share,” he said.

The group's total number of offices internationally now sits at 788, down from 808 at the same time last year.

The group’s conference, which was held on the Gold Coast earlier this week, attracted 700 attendees who heard that that Harcourts’ international theme for 2012 will centre on 'One Team, Great By Choice'.

“Great by choice is all about our mindset,” Mr Green said.

“There is only one thing that determines our success – it isn’t the market, interest rates or the world economy – it is how we think, what we believe, and the actions we take. Quite simply, our success is our choice.”

“To really take Harcourts to the next level, our single focus for the year ahead needs to be the client,” he continued.

“We need to understand how the client has changed in recent times, create and develop strong relationships with them, and ultimately deliver a remarkable client experience each and every time.”
