Garth Makowski, based in Sydney’s south west, took out the Harcourts’ number one residential sales consultant in Australia award, while South Australian Michael Brock was inducted into the group’s Hall of Fame, at the group’s national awards ceremony earlier this week.

Mr Makowski, director of Dougmal Harcourts Campbelltown, was judged against more than 1,000 sales consultants Australia-wide and over 5,100 internationally.

“It was a real surprise and an absolute honour to be presented with this award,” Mr Makowski, who also finished fifth globally, said.

“I feel like I have reached a massive milestone in my career and feel very grateful to have reached this point. All of the hard work, long hours and late nights have definitely been worth it.”

Mr Makowski formally joined the industry in 1992 after finishing high school.

At the same event, held on the Gold Coast, Michael Brock was inducted into the Harcourts Hall of Fame in recognition of the contribution he has made to the organisation.

One of only a few with membership to the Harcourts Hall of Fame, Mr Brock is the founder and director of Brock Harcourts in South Australia and has been part of the group for almost 10 years.

Mr Brock, who also owns two Harcourts offices in Adelaide, Brock Harcourts Adelaide and Brock Harcourts Glenelg, has worked in the real estate industry for close to four decades.

“Brocky is a larger-than-life individual who has been instrumental in the success and development of Harcourts within Australia. He is one of the country’s great real estate personalities and is a true professional in every sense of the word,” said Gilbert Enoka, general manager of Harcourts International, in an introductory speech.

After entering the real estate industry as a sales consultant in 1973, Mr Brock went on to co-found Brock Partners Real Estate in 1982. In 2004, he and his partners formed the joint venture with Harcourts, creating Brock Harcourts, which has more than 40 offices around the state.

Mr Brockl has twice been president of the Real Estate Institute of South Australia (REISA), a board member of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), a Fellow of the Society of Auctioneers and Appraisers, and won the inaugural Australasian Auctioneering Championships.

Throughout his career, Mr Brock has conducted in excess of 8,000 real estate auctions.
