REA Group has launched a new commercial property app linked to its realcommercial.com.au website, not long after the property listing website company surpassed one million downloads for its residential listing app.

In what the company said was a first for the Australian market, the free app, which is available on iPhone and iPod Touch, accesses all current listings on realcommercial.com.au, allowing people to search for listings of offices, retail spaces, warehouses, land and more.

The realcommercial.com.au app also allows users to find current listings situated near them, using their device’s current location.

REA Group said it developed the app following the successful launch of the mobile optimised site in July last year.

Henry Ruiz, chief product officer at REA Group, said the creation of the app reflected a natural evolution of the way people are now searching for property.

“With an average unique audience of more than 171,000 per month on realcommercial.com.au, we know that Australians have a hunger for commercial property,” he said.

“Combined with the knowledge that approximately half of the site’s visitors use their mobile phone to access the internet, the realcommercial.com.au iPhone app is designed to provide Australians searching for commercial property on the go with a fantastic user experience,” he said.

“The app provides convenient on-the-go access to all of our commercial listings with a simple and familiar interface, ensuring users can find properties fast.”

The application also lets users download documents and property brochures to iBooks, Evernote and Dropbox, view full screen photos, provides the ability to add agent details to the user's contact list and view properties and slideshows on HDTV with Airplay.

The news comes only months after REA Group reported that its free residential app, which is linked to its realestate.com.au site, surpassed one million downloads. The residential app was launched in December 2010.
