An independent real estate agency located on Sydney’s north shore, which will celebrate its 114th birthday next week, attributes some of its longevity to its strong community ties.

“We are proud to be part of a long and respected heritage and recognise the value and reward in giving back to our community,” said Margaret Snodgrass, director at RT Forsyth.

Established on 1 October 1898 by Robert Todd Forsyth, RT Forsyth operates from an office in the Sydney suburb of Willoughby.

According to the agency, part of its success has come by simply putting “the client's best interest above all”.

“Over a century later, Forsyth is still in the same high profile location and is still owned by the same family,” the agency said. “The current directors of Forsyth Real Estate, Margaret Snodgrass and James Snodgrass, are third and fourth generation Forsyths, respectively.”

Much of the agency’s involvement with the local community has centred on charity work, which includes Daffodil Day and a yearly lawn bowl day.

The lawn bowl event is held in conjunction with Chatswood Bowling Club and the NSW Police Association, and aims to raise funds for worthy causes.

“Last year we raised money for the Queensland Flood victims and this year we raised money for Paramedic Mick Wilson and Police Officer David Rixon who both lost their lives in the line of duty,” the agency said.

Ms Snodgrass, who is third-generation Forsyth, is also heavily involved in local community work.
