Recruitment drive yields positive result

A “warts and all” recruitment presentation formed part of a group’s recent push for fresh talent.

Victoria-based real estate network, Barry Plant Group, said it was confident it would recruit as many as 100 new staff members in the New Year, following a "successful" recruitment drive that saw more than 250 candidates attend information sessions across Melbourne and Geelong.

CEO Mike McCarthy, who presented at the Geelong session, was adamant that the timing was right for a career in real estate.

"We have positions available across the board in sales, property management, administration and our new arm, mortgage broking," Mr McCarthy said.

"Contrary to the trend in the market, the Barry Plant Group has sold more properties this year than last year and we are always looking for more staff to meet the needs of our increased success in the marketplace."

Ongoing training and internal support were key to retaining quality staff, he added.

"The fact is, in a downward trending market, those who want to work in the industry have to work harder and smarter,” he said. “We give a 'warts and all' presentation into the real estate industry and all that it entails as it's important people have realistic expectations when seeking a career in our industry.”

Only recently, Raine & Horne CEO Angus Raine said improving market conditions also suggested that it was a good time to open a new office.

To help give budding principals a clearer picture of what's involved in running an agency, the group also held a 'Business Boot Camp' which Mr Raine said attracted a high calibre of professionals.
