A real estate agent has planned a massive community rodeo, bringing in 60 riders from as far away as Canada, to show off his town and raise money for charity.
Jesse James of Ray White Redland Bay, is a former bull rider and is keen for people outside of his local territory, which is around 40km southeast of Brisbane, to experience his community.
“The Grass Roots Redland Bay tickets allow people to come in and out of the event all day, so visitors can take a look around the Redland Bay area and experience our region,” Mr James said.
“Redland Bay has everything a family could want or need in terms of lifestyle. We love it here so we’re keen for others to experience it too.”
The event is expected to draw in a crowd of around 4,000 people - not bad for a town with a population less than 14,000.
Kids will be entertained by a mechanical bull, giant slide, jumping castle, face painting, rock climbing, pony rides, ball pit and ferris wheel.
“There’s a great community atmosphere in Redland Bay. Forty businesses donated enough money to hire bulls, equipment and provide prize money for the bull ride. Together, those businesses donated $32,000,” he said.
Capalaba-based charity The Cage Youth Foundation will receive 20 per cent of the gate fees and the winning cowboy gets $5,000. There is also a prize of $500 for the best novice bull rider.
The event will take place this weekend on Australia Day, with the Redland Bay Hotel playing host to 80s Australian band Pseudo Echo.
