Group rejects 'slick' shopfronts in new look

Barry Plant wants no part of “the slick, brightly lit, highly branded décor” of many existing agency shopfronts, launching a new look and layout at its latest office that will be rolled out across the Victoria group’s network.

The new office, Barry Plant's 82nd, is opening in Rosebud, located on the Mornington Peninsula. It will be managed by Craig Leo, who is also director of sales, along with his wife Katherine, and business partners, Rosebud couple Rod and Sally Richards.

"It's definitely very 'whiz-bang'," Mr Leo said of the new office layout. "The whole concept is very relaxing and inviting. There are lounge areas for clients, TVs, ipads - and all the marketing and technology aids are at the client's disposal.

“The windows aren't  cluttered with property photos, which could be considered a risk, but we want people to come in and talk to us so we can find exactly the right property for them."

Barry Plant said the new office décor aims to create a warm, homestyle environment, “a radical departure from the slick, brightly lit, highly branded décor of most real estate offices.”

This new look is being rolled out across all 80-plus Barry Plant offices.

Mr Leo has worked in real estate for the past six years, the last four in Rosebud, the company said.

"This was a strategic decision,” he said. “Through working in the area, I found that many of my buyers come from Melbourne's northern and eastern suburbs, often looking for a second home, or to retire in Rosebud after spending many years holidaying here. Because Barry Plant has such a strong presence in those areas and a massive network, it definitely made sense to align myself with them."

The office, which includes property management, currently employs nine people although more staff are expected to be added in the coming months.

Barry Plant Group CEO Mike McCarthy said Rosebud was the ideal location for the brand's 82nd office and the Peninsula region's fourth.

"With Barry Plant offices already in successfully operating Mornington, Rye and  Frankston, and with the recent opening of the Peninsula Link drastically reducing travel time to the city, Rosebud is set to take off as an exciting real estate market," Mr McCarthy said.
