A real estate group has successfully found new recruits after offering a scholarship program to dedicated young people in NSW.

Southern Sydney local Rebekah Flynn was one of only three winners in the state to receive a scholarship to complete the Real Estate Certificate as part of the Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program.

“I first undertook work experience in a busy real estate office during year 10 and then completed another month of work experience later the same year,” Ms Flynn said.

“I quickly developed a strong interest in real estate so applying for the Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program seemed a logical step. As it turns out, having recently joined the Laing+Simmons Miranda team in a full time role, the move was certainly worthwhile.”

Several other large real estate groups have introduced new initatives to find young recruits in the past few months, including Ray White Surfers Paradise and McGrath Estate Agents.

Now in its 16th year, the Laing+Simmons Scholarship Program strives to improve levels of professionalism in the industry, according to general manager, Leanne Pilkington.

“Candidates complete a work experience period with one of our offices and are mentored by an experienced practitioner, ensuring the right techniques, skills and standards of practise are learned at the outset of their careers,” she said.

Ms Pilkington said the scholarship program is an effective training initiative and a unique opportunity for students interested in a real estate career.

“Real estate is a dynamic and competitive industry and Laing+Simmons is proud to maintain a leadership position in educating young talent and improving professional standards in the industry through this initiative,” Ms Pilkington said.

Ms Flynn said she would look to eventually move to a sales role.

“Ideally I’d like to build my skills and experience in the property management field before investigating opportunities in real estate sales,” she said.
