One of the largest online networks of real estate professionals in Australia has celebrated its first birthday this month.

Since The Real Estate Community Facebook group launched in February last year, its membership has grown to more than 2,600.

Co-founder and managing director of Natgroup Real Estate, Edgar Natolo, told Real Estate Business he created the group because he wanted to promote positive relations between real estate professionals.

“My vision was to create a change in the industry where we could all become friends, talk to one another, and share and get ideas off eachother to change the [negative] perception that everyone has about real estate agents,” he said.

He added that the closed-group has also attracted members from other countries.

“The group started in Australia but it’s gone from just being agents from around Australia to include agents in the UK and a heap of agents in America as well,” he said.

Mr Natolo attributes the rapid growth to people’s receptiveness to the group’s aims. “When people started to catch on to what we were representing, they basically started adding people, so it started growing from there,” he explained.

Members are encouraged to use the Facebook page to ask questions, write comments and share content. The site is regularly moderated by Mr Natolo and his partners Simon Finlayson and Zac McHardy to ensure it is clear of negative comments or promotional posts.

The large network of real estate professionals has also caught the eyes of event organisers who have offered exclusive discounts to members of the group.

Mr Natolo said he hoped members would continue to utilise the page to share content, and that he would be able to hold free events in the future.
