A director at one of Australia’s largest commercial real estate groups will ride more than 1,000km to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation.

Peter Evans, national director for corporate solutions at Colliers International, is aiming to raise $25,000 by taking part in the 2013 Tour de Kids charity bike ride later this month.

According to Mr Evans, Team Colliers-Mirvac-Aviva, is aiming to raise a total of $600,000.

“Colliers International has been the major sponsor of Tour de Kids since its inception,” Mr Evans said.

“The tour is a feat of endurance which places riders in a very different realm to their everyday life in the boardroom or in front of a computer.”

Tour de Kids replicates the Tour de France, complete with competition jerseys for exceptional conduct either on or off the bike. Since its inception, Colliers International has helped Tour de Kids raise more than $4.8million for a variety of children’s health and wellbeing programs.

Tour de Kids was established in 1988 and takes place along a different route each year. This year’s ride will see participants travel more than 1,000km from Hobart to Strahan, via Launceston and Cradle Mountain.

“This is my second Tour de Kids – I took part for the first time last year and found it incredibly rewarding and fulfilling," he said.

“I have been blessed with two healthy children, but in recent times I have watched as my best friend’s nephew, Lucias, has undergone extensive surgery and post-operative treatment for a brain tumour that he developed at the age of eight.

“I have ridden 6,000km since November in preparation for this year’s Tour de Kids. My pain finishes when I get off the bike, but the pain that these children and their families endure is ongoing.”
