A team of Raine & Horne agents and their friends will embark on the challenge of a lifetime next month, hiking the Kokoda Trail, and it's all to raise money for charity.
The group will take on the 96 kilometre track in Papua New Guinea starting at Popendetta, the capital of Oro Province on April 14 and finishing at the Bomana War Cemetery in Port Moresby April 25 for the Anzac Day dawn service.
The contingent includes general manager of Raine & Horne Terrigal-Avoca Brett Hunter, Raine & Horne Newcastle principal Jason Maxwell and Raine & Horne Chermside sales consultant Zac McHardy.
Mr Hunter said marking the 70th year of the Kokoda Track campaign was an inspiration for his team and a chance for them to help local charities including Kokoda Angels and Investa Tracks.
“This trek will present me with the opportunity to learn from my real estate peers in a unique environment away from the usual pressures of modern day life,” said Mr Hunter.
This was also an opportunity for Mr Hunter to honour his grandfather Mervyn Hunter, who battled the Japanese on the Kokoda Track in 1942.
Mr McHardy said his incentives for taking on the trek included learning from his fellow real estate agents and discovering more about an important episode in Australian military history.
“The trek will be like the best real estate conference ever as I’ll be making the journey with some of the finest and most knowledgeable real estate agents in Australia,” said Mr McHardy.
“Finishing Kokoda is also like a badge of honour for Australians, while I have to admit the travel and adventure involved is also exciting.”
Raine & Horne CEO Angus Raine said he hoped the real estate community would financially support the men.
“The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels provided Australian troops, including members of my family, with immeasurable support through the Kokoda Campaign, so it’s only fitting that we do our bit to aid charities such as Investa Treks and Kokoda Angels, who are supporting the descendants of these brave angels.”
