Fifteen years ago, Edwin Almeida discovered he had a rare tumour in his throat.

Despite a negative prognosis, the western Sydney agent has been able to manage the illness thanks to the support of medical research.

Last Thursday, Mr Almeida launched 100k100d, a campaign aimed at raising $100,000 for the Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) in 100 days.

“It’s close to my heart because of my illness that I’ve carried and medical research has been very instrumental in keeping me here,” he told Real Estate Business.

“By raising $100,000 in 100 days, we will be able to achieve our goal to enable more research and a future with better treatments, increased knowledge, prevention and ultimately cures.”

Mr Almeida, who is the managing partner of independent agency Just Think Property, said his campaign was also his way of giving back to the local community.

“We take a lot of wealth from the community in terms of business, but we sometimes forget how important it is to place some of it back," he said.

“It gives us a local focus and I’m a believer that when we get that message across and the local community begins to see those working in the community, you do gain a bit more attraction than someone who doesn’t.

“I’m about putting into the field that you’re getting the wealth, business or fruit from.”

Mr Almeida is inviting businesses and individuals to get involved with his campaign and raise money through various means, including fundraising events, donating profits or salary, and contributing a portion from the sales of goods or services.

In the coming weeks, he will launch his self-published book Untold Stories by Real Estate Agents, with all proceeds going towards WMRF.
