A franchise development manager for one of the world’s largest networks will compete in the Cairns Ironman competition on the June long weekend.
Joel Davoren, franchise development consultant and son of owner Michael Davoren for RE/MAX Australia, will swim 3.8km, ride 180km and run for 42.2km to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Australia.
“I chose an organised event and set up an online fundraising page with Make-A-Wish Australia,” explained Mr Davoren. “The money I raise will help make wishes come true for seriously-ill children.”
Mr Davoren, who lives in Wavell Heights in Brisbane, has been committed to his training schedule and plans to be competitive, though he says his main ambition is to cross the finish line.
“I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to Ironman events; I’ve only competed in one other and I chose this because it’s meant to be one of the most scenic rides in Australia," he said.
“What Make-A-Wish Australia does for children and young people with life-threatening medical conditions is awesome, and the most important thing about what I’m doing through this event is raising awareness that individuals everywhere can get involved in fundraising and help make wishes come true.”
Just a month into the campaign, Mr Davoren was the Ironman Cairns event’s second highest fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Australia and looked on track to exceed his $2,000 target.
