A new e-book set to be released next week will give aspiring real estate agents insights into the realities of working in the industry.

After becoming frustrated by fly-by agents who join the industry as a quick way to make money, Andrew Drane, the director of Harcourts Hills Living, began writing the book, which was originally released in hard copy in May this year.

“The book is aimed at people entering the real estate industry or people who have been in the industry for a little while,” the award-winning agent told Real Estate Business.

“It’s a description of all the skills and attributes required to be a real estate agent, a principal, an auctioneer or a property manager. It has bits of everything for any budding real estate entrant into sales or property management.

“We need people who know what the industry is about. The book says if you’ve got the skills and attributes, give it a go - you’ll be okay if you work hard. If you haven’t, maybe you need to look at somewhere else to work.”

Mr Drane, who was ranked 41st on Real Estate Business’ Top 100 Agents list, said the e-book would be made available on Amazon and the iTunes Store.

He hopes the book will also be appreciated by businesspeople outside the real estate industry.

“There are some tools in there that could help someone who is in business, not just people looking at real estate, so we hope it will cover a broad spectrum of interests and industries," he said.

“It’s a very specific book and it’s a good recruitment tool for principals [and] it’s a great training manual.”

Mr Drane said he was currently marketing the book by sending letters to principals around Australia, and he will be speaking about it on 2GB on Saturday morning.

An excerpt of the book can be accessed here.
