The Real Estate Institute of Australia’s (REIA) website and email was compromised by a virus yesterday.
The REIA is urging its subscribers to not open any email correspondence from Wednesday 31 July, as it may contain a virus.
Around midday yesterday the below message began circulating to REIA subscribers.
“Dear REIA Customer, We are updating our database for all the customers who purchsed E-Books or have a paid subscription to our website, kindly fill in the below form in order to complete your profile with us. Failure to do so will result in removal from mail list and/or termination of subscription. We are sorry for your inconvenience, but this is important and urgent to us. Best Regards, John Anderson REAL ESTATE INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA
However, the message is completely unauthorised according to a spokesperson.
“REIA’s website has been compromised. [The message] is spam,” they said.
“Please do not open any links attached to this email. REIA is very sorry for any inconvenience and our department is working to rectify the situation ASAP.”
