A Sydney agent has set the record for the sale of a property in the inner-city suburb of Alexandria last weekend.

Principal of LJ Hooker Inner City Brigitte Blackman achieved a suburb record price at auction of $1.82 million for the 190 square metre luxury home.

The reserve price had been set at more than $1.5 million and the previous record for the suburb had been $1.62 million, which Ms Blackman also achieved last year for a three-level warehouse-style terrace.

“I was very surprised we got this result, but I knew it would go well as it’s located in the golden triangle of Alexandria, in Lyne Street,” Ms Blackman said.

Ms Blackman said the three-bedroom house had been newly built, with the owner having spent a number of years developing it.

“It ticked all the boxes an owner would look for in a home – the right location, the right size, off-street parking, the quality finishes, the good cross ventilation, neutral colour schemes and a brand new kitchen and bathroom,” she said.

The property was on the market for five weeks, during which time 160 groups went through the house. On the day of the auction, there were 200 people in attendance and 13 registered bidders attended the auction on Saturday, which only lasted 10 minutes.

“I think it’s a reflection of how hot Alexandria is as a suburb,” Ms Blackman said.

“The market is hot in general, but it does show the strength of an area where demand exceeds supply, and the strength of a good quality home that was well thought out.”
