A network has managed to raise over $30,000 to support childhood cancer research.

Harcourts Western Australia raised $17,470 for the Telethon Adventurers last week by auctioning off signed sporting memorabilia and several other donated items.

As the auction was the first Telethon Adventurers fundraiser for the year, Channel Seven owner Kerry Stokes, who supports the charity, doubled this amount to $34,940.

“At the last minute, Kerry Stokes said he would match us dollar for dollar. So we asked the crowd to donate anything extra they could so we could make an even bigger donation to the Telethon Adventurers through the Harcourts Foundation,” said Leigh Moore, managing director of Harcourts Blue in Kardinya.

“As a parent, I couldn't imagine being told that my children have cancer. Around 100 children are being diagnosed with cancer every year in Western Australia, so the Telethon Adventurers are making a concerted effort to raise funds to find the cause and cures for these childhood cancers.”

Harcourts Western Australia is aiming to raise as much money as possible prior to their upcoming cycling fundraiser for The Telethon Adventurers via The Harcourts Foundation in April.

“Three members of the Harcourts WA team will depart the state’s most northern office, Harcourts Geraldton, and cycle the 650 kilometres to their most southern office, Harcourts Busselton, over five days,” Mr Moore said.

The Telethon Adventurers were founded by Rick and Emily Parish three years ago, after their son Elliott was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Elliott lost his battle two and a half years ago. Over five million dollars has been raised through the Telethon, with funds raised benefiting sick children at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
