A major network's CEO has announced today he will resign from his position in 2014.
Georg Chmiel has handed in his resignation after just 18 months in the top job at LJ Hooker, to take up the role of CEO at iProperty Group, Asia’s number one property portal website.
“It’s been a great pleasure and an amazing experience to have been part of one of Australia’s best known and iconic real estate brands,” Mr Chmiel said.
“Now is the right time for me to move on to the next chapter of my professional career.
“I am happy to leave behind a company that is now much bigger, much stronger and much more dynamic than when I joined.
“This is the result of the dedication and commitment of an excellent team of professionals across the board, from our franchise partners to those in the back office.”
Mr Chmiel will remain as managing director for a period of six months while the board finds a replacement.
The chairman of LJ Hooker, Greg Paramor, thanked Mr Chmiel for all that he had achieved at the company.
“During his time as chief executive and managing director, Georg has been instrumental in consolidating the financial position of LJ Hooker and in helping us to become, once again, the preeminent real estate network in the country," he said.
“As a result of his leadership and the hard work of his team, LJ Hooker is now in a much stronger position, having expanded our online presence extensively and grown our global footprint.
“On behalf of the board, I wish Georg and his family all the best. We also note and appreciate his decision to provide us with plenty of time ahead of his departure for us to search and appoint a successor.”
Under Mr Chmiel’s leadership, the company has taken out a number of prestigious awards, including this year’s first annual Australian Real Estate Awards, Major Network of the Year.
He also secured a three-year strategic partnership with Chinese property website Juwai.com.
In October, Mr Chmiel spearheaded a designated concierge in mainland China to field enquiries from Chinese buyers about listings in Australia and New Zealand, and acquired specialised industrial real estate and property management company Billicorp.
In September, LJ Hooker joined the Real Estate Institute of Australia’s (REIA) Affiliated Council.
Mr Chmiel has been a non-executive director of iPoperty Group since January 2011.
