Landlords turned PMs win national award

Fed up with poor property managers, six years ago two investors teamed up to create their own property management company, which has recently been declared the best of the best.

Perth-based Investors Edge Real Estate, headed by Denise Thompson and Jarrad Mahon, was revealed as the 2014 LPMA Property Management Company of the Year after more than doubling its profit in the past year.

Speaking with Real Estate Business' sister publication, Residential Property Manager, Mr Mahon said it was great to have a team accolade to add to the trophy cabinet.

“We had some success at the recent REIWA awards for some of our individual property managers, but to receive an award for the full team is a great acknowledgment of the hard work we put in,” he said.

As property investors themselves, Mr Mahon said his company’s point of difference stems from what he would want from a property manager.

“We have a callback guarantee that if we don’t get back to you by the end of the day, we give you $100. It’s just one of the things we do to make sure the clients experience with us is as easy as possible,” he said.

While Investors Edge appeals to landlords, Mr Mahon claims the company’s main focus for the past 12 months has been growing internally.

“We’ve spent a lot of time developing a career path for our managers and giving them a larger reason for being with us," he said.

“We’re very focused on training and procedures. We’ve developed with them an internal website with information on every single procedure required in property management with video. That helps get our new team members up to speed really quickly.

“We’ve doubled the business in the last 12 months, we’ve had a 106 per cent increase in our net profit. We didn’t want to just grow – we knew we needed to get to another level to keep our standards in place.”
