Friday Funnies: Make sure you sell the right house

Every Friday, we will feature a story from an agent on the ground. This week’s story comes from Kelley Ann-Seaton from Property Management HQ.

"Two months ago our office secured a new investor client. We were informed only of the upcoming property street name and lot number at this stage.

Their property had almost finished building completion, with about four weeks still remaining before the Occupation Certificate was issued.

We like to sign up the landlord, client and commence property marketing before the OC is issued, and we had the builder's construction key and an arrangement with this particular builder to access all properties nearing completion coming onto our rent roll portfolio to view and arrange professional photos to start marketing for tenants.

We went to the property and the council inspector was there completing a pre-settlement inspection. At this time, we checked the street number of the house with the council inspector to make sure we had all the correct information. Once confirmed, we started advertising, almost had a tenant lined up, and then realized we we're actually showing the property next door by mistake.

Ouch! Lesson learnt: ALWAYS TRIPLE CHECK. Not double check. We had already done a double check and were given the wrong information - twice!

The funny part to the story, apart from feeling humiliated at our mistake, was that we were showing a home that was to belong to an owner occupier and not one of our upcoming property investors!"
