A long-serving Raine & Horne agent has been confirmed as one of the victims of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 disaster.

Melbourne agent Albert Rizk and his wife, Marie, were among the 298 passengers killed when the Malaysian airliner was shot down over east Ukraine late last week.

Mr Rizk, a director at Raine & Horne Sunbury, was due to return home on Friday after a month-long tour of Europe and had missed his original flight, according to reports.

It is believed the couple were on holidays with another Sunbury couple and had tried to change flights to be with their travel companions, but were unsuccessful.

A spokesperson for Raine & Horne said the network was not going to comment on the tragedy.

Mr Rizk, who has sold real estate for over 25 years in the Sunbury, Diggers Rest, Bulla, Riddells Creek, Romsey and Lancefield district, was one of the top 10 sales agents within the Raine & Horne network.

The Ballarat-based Courier has reported that Sunbury Football Club, of which Mr Risk was a committee member, is in shock.

“We're all in complete shock, it's a tragedy," said club president Phil Lithgow.
