A leadership forum has been held to honour the role of women in what is sometimes regarded as a male-focused industry.

Stockdale & Leggo and TMJ Coaching organised the Real Women in Real Estate event, a one-day leadership workshop for women that attracted more than 50 women.

TMJ Coaching chief executive Tanja Jones said the event reaffirmed the important role that women play in the industry.

“It is a chance to acknowledge the contribution they make, unearth their current realities, reveal their desired futures and provide empowered leadership training that will enable them to produce breakthrough results both personally and professionally,” Ms Jones said.

According to Stockdale & Leggo, research shows that women make up slightly more than half of the people employed in the industry.

However, women hold only 40 per cent of managerial roles and 33 per cent of professional roles, the group added.

Further research shows that women are paid less than men in similar roles and are more likely to suffer discrimination, according to Stockdale & Leggo.

“It is my strong belief that we need to support the women in our organisation, to help them grow,” chief operating officer Anna Thomas said.
