An agency will roll out the red carpet and bubbly tonight as it gambles on a one-off open home event to sell a property.

Hockingstuart Yarraville agent Chris Le said the Melbourne office had decided it needed an unusual campaign to show off the unusual house it is selling.

The three-bedroom Yarraville house was built in 1890 and has since been upgraded by award-winning architect Lindsay Douglas.

Mr Le told Real Estate Business that potential buyers will be welcomed with a red carpet and be treated to champagne, canapés and acoustic music.

“We want to create that exclusiveness about viewing the property, considering how beautiful it is,” he said.

“In America and Europe they do a lot of similar events, but I haven’t seen many agencies doing that in Melbourne or in Australia.”

The inspection will be held from 6.30pm to 6.45pm and will be followed by a presentation from Mr Douglas.

“When you buy a renovated house, most of the time you don’t know much about the design so you don’t know what you’re buying,” Mr Le said.

“By having this presentation, potential buyers will know exactly what they're buying, in particular the quality of the house.”

Mr Le said the agency had been nervous about how buyers would respond to the one-off event, but about 30 or 40 people were expected to attend.

The property is being sold by expressions of interest, which are due by 14 May.

Yarraville’s median house price reached $707,000 at the end of March, according to CoreLogic RP Data.

That came after price growth of 2.4 per cent over the previous year, 17.1 per cent over the previous three years and 30.6 per cent over the previous five years.
