Harcourts’ new Queensland boss has revealed plans to open up to 20 new offices, with one regional area a particular focus.
Brendan Whipps has been announced as the replacement for former Queensland chief executive Jim Midgley.
He was most recently a consultant with Real Estate Dynamics, and previously held leadership positions with Elders, including head of real estate.
Mr Whipps told Real Estate Business that several office openings were in the pipeline.
“It would be nice to open 20 or more new offices this year, but more important than the number alone is the people that open with us,” he said.
“If we only opened five new businesses in 2015, but all of those owners have leadership qualities and capabilities equivalent to our top business owners, I would be happy.”
Mr Whipps said Harcourts had identified 50 greenfield opportunities where it has no presence.
Those opportunities stretch from Coolangatta in the south to Cooktown in the north, he added.
“We have key markets available in inner and greater Brisbane, we are strong on the Gold Coast and still have some exciting opportunities there,” he said.
“We will focus with intensity on the Sunshine Coast – we need to be there and then there are plenty of opportunities for us in the north.”
Mr Whipps has been in the industry for 22 years, and previously owned and operated an independent agency.
