One Melbourne agent has raised almost $12,000 as she and other industry figures prepare to sleep rough to raise awareness about homelessness.
Nancy Crupi, managing director of YPA Estate Agents Taylors Lakes, has so far collected $11,300 as she prepares to participate in her first CEO Sleepout.
Ms Crupi told Real Estate Business that the event would give her a small glimpse of what homeless people actually go through.
“In seeing the joy we place every day in real estate when people are moving into new homes, I know in my heart that homeless people across Australia will feel the same sort of joy when they are being assisted with what we have done and what the money will do for them,” she said.
The 11th annual CEO Sleepout will take place on June 18, as businesspeople across Australia sleep outdoors as part of what is now a high-profile annual event .
Ms Crupi said she is trying to boost momentum for her fundraising by spreading awareness through Facebook, client newsletters and her local paper.
“I have had the greatest support from the YPA network, who have assisted in donating money to this wonderful event,” she said.
“The support shown by my corporate office, my fellow franchisees and staff has been amazing.”
Another agent who will participate is Joanne Danckwardt from Joanne Danckwardt Real Estate in Wollongong. She has so far raised $581 of her $5,000 target.
Ms Danckwardt told Real Estate Business that she decided to participate in her first CEO Sleepout to help the increasing number of homeless people she sees on the streets.
“I have only just started to talk to people about it and will be emailing my current and past clients soon,” she said.
“Hopefully they will support me and I will be able to contribute to this worthy cause.”
Other industry figures have combined to raise another $10,000 between them.
This includes $2,000 for Housing Industry Association executive director John Gelavis; $1,851 for West Coast Property Training chief executive Jackie Crank; and $1,800 for Access Housing chief executive Garry Ellender.
Other fundraisers include Property Council of Australia executive director Catherine Carter with $1,125; Link Housing chief executive Andrew McAnulty with $1,050; and Ray White Tuggeranong principal Colin McIntyre with $900.
There have also been contributions of $810 to Ray White Weston Creek principal Karen Coe; $170 to Abel McGrath principal Simon McGrath; and $100 to Independent Property Group director Igor Srbinovski.
