Auction clearance rates climb throughout Australia

Melbourne has recorded Australia's best clearance rate for the second weekend running, with another result just under 80 per cent.

The city recorded a clearance rate of 79.9 per cent last weekend, compared to 79.5 per cent the weekend before and 77.8 per cent the year before, according to APM PriceFinder.

Sales rose 17.4 per cent to 492, with the median price for house sales up 8.3 per cent to $850,000 and the median price for unit sales up 3.3 per cent to $540,000.

Sydney’s clearance rate rose from 77.8 per cent last year to 79.7 per cent last weekend.

Sales jumped 49.4 per cent to 472, with the median house price climbing 17.8 per cent to $1.3 million and the median unit price climbing 20.0 per cent to $822,000.

Brisbane posted a clearance rate of 69.6 per cent, with the 39 sales achieving a median price of $650,000.

Adelaide posted a clearance rate of 66.7 per cent, with the 22 sales achieving a median price of $550,000.

Across Australia, the clearance rate increased from 71.0 per cent to 78.8 per cent.

Sales grew 31.3 per cent to 1,049, with house prices up 12.7 per cent to $965,000 and unit prices up 20.0 per cent to $720,000.

McGrath Estate Agents Leichhardt achieved the weekend’s top auction result, selling a five-bedroom Haberfield house for $4.23 million.

Noel Jones Camberwell had Melbourne’s top result, selling a four-bedroom Camberwell house for $3.20 million.

In Brisbane, Belle Property Wilston sold a five-bedroom Wooloowin house for $1.95 million.

Adelaide’s highest auction price was achieved by Harcourts Platinum, which sold a five-bedroom Malvern house for $1.08 million.
