4 steps on ladder

Celebrity real estate agent Fredrik Eklund has sold more than US$2 billion worth of real estate. He built his career from the ground up and in the process gained valuable insights into retaining his clients and encouraging people to do business with him. He shares his tips here.

Be likeable

This might seem obvious, but it really can be this easy to keep clients happy.

“People want to do business with someone they like,” said Mr Eklund, who found his fame in New York on TV show Million Dollar Agent.

Being likeable is not only easy, it’s also going to set you apart from other agents.

“So within yourself when it comes to selling, its all about taking what youre good at instead of thinking about what you cannot do,” Mr Eklund said.

Work on how you fail

“Every successful person knows how to fail well, or rather, we all fail. I certainly do every single day,” Mr Eklund said. The difference between successful people and everyone else is how they handle failure.

“When you do fail you just accept it and move on, just try again immediately,” Mr Eklund said.

Keep your eyes focused forward

“Success is only temporary, thats very true for me,” he said.

Mr Eklund added that it wouldn’t take much for everything to come crashing down. This belief keeps him focused and working toward the future.

“Im always afraid that Im not going to increase my numbers from here and I think that is what makes us successful.”

Remember why you do what you do

Mr Eklund said his real estate career was fuelled by a desire to move to New York when he was a young boy in Sweden. Today, he is determined to keep the level of success he currently enjoys. Having this driving ambition will help you overcome setbacks in your career.

“Whatever the dream is, I think its super important to be very specific about it ... tell people, remind yourself every day.”
