That’s the overwhelming advice from Coronis Franchise Director, Jodie Stainton, to the countless property managers wondering if they could or should start their own property management business.

Coronis Principal Esther Nilson who is based in Perth said it was a nerve-racking moment cutting the salary strings but hasn’t looked back.
“In a way, losing that security blanket is the best form of motivation, as it gives you a real drive to succeed. I was waiting for the ‘what have I done’ moment, but it never came because deep down I knew I made the right move,” Ms Nilson said.
“I will admit it’s a big shift mentally, but the Coronis model gives you the tools, literally everything you need, to start building your own portfolio, but more importantly the Coronis franchise community is online everyday offering tips or suggestions on what’s working for them, so I was able to pick and choose from different people and find my style.
“The best thing for me is that I am no longer answerable to anyone else. I choose the way I run my portfolio, I choose the clients I want to work with, I choose which hours I work – so it’s given me a new level of flexibility and freedom that I’ve never had before.
“In less than 12 months, I hit my first major business goal of signing 50 managements so I’m already earning what I used to when I was on a salary, but I am in control of my future now and building an asset I can sell if I need to.
“Don’t get me wrong – you have to really put your head down, bum up and do the work, but with every new management you sign, you gain more and more confidence, you find what works best for you and before you know it, you have built your own brand where clients and friends are referring to you.”
Ms Stainton said Ms Nilson was just one example of many property managers who had successfully grown their own business in the past year.
“Rebecca Barnett in Ipswich is another amazing example who has built a portfolio of 40 properties in 11 months, but has also sold six properties for the first time ever providing her with an additional stream of income,” she said.
Ms Barnett said since starting her own business with Coronis, she’d almost hit her first major business goal, learnt to sell properties and was now receiving rental and sales referrals.
“After 17 years as a property manager, I was dreading going to work, sitting in an office from 8am – 5pm and feeling guilty for taking time off when my children needed me,” Ms Barnett said.
“But starting my own business really put the spark back into me and learning to sell houses has been an amazing experience – one that I thought I would never do, but it makes sense for me pocket the commission rather than handing that client relationship over to someone else.
“I now work the hours I want, spread over 7 days depending on my clients, I’m at home for my children when they need me and I’m earning more than what I was before plus I have my own asset now.
“I am the person who overthinks everything, but I don’t know what I didn’t do this sooner or why more people aren’t making the leap. Back yourself, because Jodie and her team sure do.”
