Members of the Queensland real estate community are mourning the loss of Max Christmas AM.
REIQ Gold Coast zone chair Andrew Henderson and former REIQ board director and Gold Coast zone chair John Newlands have penned a tribute to 81-year-old Max Christmas, the man dubbed “Mr Gold Coast”.
Calling Mr Christmas a “property icon”, Mr Henderson and Mr Newlands said “his legacy as one of Australia’s most famous real estate agents and businessmen will live on for decades to come”.
“The REIQ wish to acknowledge his great work for the real estate industry and wider Gold Coast community,” they wrote.
“Max was a truly inspirational man, and he will be sorely missed.”
Mr Christmas was inducted into the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards Hall of Fame in 2010, and was granted an AM in 2016, in recognition of his contribution to the real estate industry.
The memoriam revealed the icon as “a colourful character with a competitive spirit who achieved so much — from an apprentice carpenter in Surfers Paradise to National SLSC champion, local real estate legend and, later, Gold Coast City councillor”.
Attributed as starting and shaping the careers of many real estate agents, Mr Christmas is remembered as a clear market leader as well as a man of integrity and honesty.
“He was a true visionary, and his thinking was beyond his time.”
