The challengers for 2024’s Australasian Auctioneering Championship (AUSTROS) have been named by the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA).

Contenders from Australia and New Zealand will compete for the title of the trans-Tasman region’s top auctioneer on 15 May 2024.

The AUSTROS 2024 challengers are: Anthony DeMarco of Harcourts Smith and Bronte Manuel of Toop + Toop from South Australia; Paul Hancock of McGrath Estate Agents and Clarence White of Menck White Auctioneers from NSW; Jake McIntyre of Ray White Hobart from Tasmania; Luke Banitsiotis of Woodards and Paul Tzamalis of The Auction Company from Victoria; Richard Kerr of Apollo Auctions and Prash Nayar of Perth Realty from Western Australia; Alec Brown of Ray White Canberra and Nic Salter Harding of LJ Hooker Dickson from the ACT; and Robert Tulp of Apollo Auctions and Mark McGoldrick of Harcourts from New Zealand.

REIA president, Leanne Pilkington, stated that this year’s AUSTROS event is set to be the most thrilling yet in spotlighting and celebrating outstanding talent within the real estate industry while also commemorating 100 years of REIA.

“AUSTROS is a platform that showcases the exemplary skills and professionalism of auctioneers from across Australia and New Zealand,” said Pilkington.

Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) chief executive, Jen Baird, highlighted the role of AUSTROS in showcasing the diverse skill sets and capabilities of real estate institute members across Australia and New Zealand.

“Auctioneers play a crucial role in the sale of property and the growth of real estate businesses on both sides of the Tasman. Real estate markets benefit from the ongoing development of the best auctioneers in the world and we are expecting nothing but worldclass at this year’s AUSTROS,” remarked Baird.

The Real Estate Institute of Tasmania’s (REIT) hosting of this year’s event will bear extra significance, with REIT chief executive Michelle Tynan explaining that the “REIT played a significant role in the inaugural championship in 1993”.

“For the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania to host the 2024 Auctioneering Championship in conjunction with the REIA 100-year celebration is really special,” said Tynan.

Pilkington emphasised the importance of honouring the industry’s collective achievements and reflecting on the role that collaboration has played in REIA’s recent history.

“As we gather to commemorate the achievements of our industry, we also look forward to engaging in insightful discussions during the centennial congress,” she stated.

“It’s a moment to honour our past, celebrate our present, and chart an inspired course for the future of real estate.”

“Congratulations to our AUSTROS 2024 finalists,” she concluded.
