Real Estate Business (REB) sat down with auctioneer Prash Nayar and his mentee Revandy Rasyad, as they shared their journey leading up to this year’s Australasian Auctioneering Championships (AUSTROS).

With over 10 years of experience selling Western Australian residential properties, Prash Nayar has always been enthusiastic about the real estate industry, which has consistently offered him opportunities for learning and growth.

In 2017, Nayar discovered the joy of auctioneering under the guidance of former REIWA auction agents network chair David Lynch, who mentored him to become one of Western Australia’s renowned auctioneers.

Since then, he has developed a deep passion for auctions and thrives on competing alongside the nation’s top auctioneers as well as nurturing new talent.

For the last couple of years, Nayar has moved from mentee to mentor, training Revandy Rasyad, a newcomer to his agency, The Real Estate Times.

“He is a rising star agent,” Nayar said.

After intensive training and developing a deep bond, the duo will compete together in this year’s upcoming AUSTROS.

Nayar shared with REB how Lynch’s teachings helped shape his approach to mentoring.

“It has been a privilege to transfer the knowledge I’ve gained to my peers,” Nayar said.

Trained under Nayar’s guidance, novice auctioneer Rasyad said he wouldn’t have been able to develop his skills as much on his own.

“I’ve seen Prash call auctions for the last two years and we have consistently trained in improving our skills,” Rasyad said.

Rasyad shared that Nayar’s training is concentrated on refining his public speaking strategies, improving his mental agility in calculating bids, and elevating his professionalism with clients.

“Prash has truly helped me develop multiple skills for a rising sales agent like me,” Rasyad said.

While Rasyad has been getting the bulk of the knowledge, Prash said being a mentor has taught him not to forget the basics of auctioneering.

“By training Revandy, I had to go back to the basics of the auctioneering competitions,” he said.

“This served as a great reminder to focus on the 1 percenters, key elements that I may have overlooked in previous years of competing and sharpening those aspects.”

Earlier this week, the duo won the live “mock” auction at the REIWA’s 2025 Gift of the Gavel Auctioneering Championships.

Together, the duo secured two awards during the competition, with Nayar being crowned Western Australia’s best auctioneer and Rasyad receiving the novice auctioneer award.

“We trained consistently in the lead-up towards the competition, so it was an incredible feeling for us both to clinch the titles,” Nayar said.

The pair is now preparing for their upcoming AUSTROS competition, where Rasyad will compete for the first time at a national level.

“We prepare by reviewing previous years’ scripts, watching videos of respected peers who previously competed, understanding judging criteria, and focusing on improving the 1 percenter,” Rasyad shared.

Rasyad said he will focus on letting his personality shine during the competition.

“I will also be focusing on retention and calculation of a variety of bids to ensure mathematical accuracy when I’m on stage,” Rasyad said.

For Nayar, this year’s AUSTROS competition will also be different as his mentee will be at his side.

“Having Revandy come along and represent WA definitely lifts my mindset as it helps in training and preparing myself towards the nationals,” he said.

Nayar said he would draw on past experiences and lessons from judges and previous competitors when stepping onto the performance stage.

To stay competitive and continually improve, Nayar said he puts significant effort into refining his auctioneering skills through consistent training.

He said training in public speaking and mental agility, along with attending interstate auctions to observe his peers, assists him in the lead-up to auction competition.

“By learning from fellow esteemed auctioneers across Australia and New Zealand, I continuously refine and gain skills that eventually benefit my clients in WA,” he said.

As they approach AUSTROS, both Nayar and Rasyad are fully committed to making the most of this opportunity.
