Auction activity across the combined capitals is set to surge, with almost every single capital city reporting a week-on-week rise in scheduled auction numbers.

Cotality’s latest Auction Market Preview shows that auction volumes across the country are expected to substantially increase from the previous week, with 2,395 capital city homes scheduled for auction over the week ending 25 May 2025.

The week’s auction numbers mark a 34.2 per cent increase from the 1,784 homes taken to auction during the week ending 18 May 2025, registering 5.8 per cent higher than the 2,264 auctions held this time last year.

For the first time in six weeks, Melbourne’s auction numbers are set to exceed 1,000 this week, the highest activity across the capital cities, with 1,152 homes scheduled to go under the hammer in the week ending 25 May 2025.

Sydney’s auction volume is also expected to rise, with 803 properties scheduled for auction, up from the 555 homes taken to auction last week, and the 767 auctions held this time last year.

Brisbane is on track to host its second-busiest auction week of the year so far, with the 203 homes slated for auction expected to mark the most activity across the less populous cities.

Similarly, Perth is expecting its busiest auction week of the year, with 17 homes set to go under the hammer, compared to the six homes that went to auction last week.

Adelaide’s 132 homes scheduled for auction are roughly in line with the 130 homes that went under the hammer in the week ending 18 May 2025.

Canberra’s auction volume has risen week-on-week, with the city’s 88 scheduled auctions marking an increase from last week’s 68 auctions.

No auctions are currently expected to take place in Tasmania, marking a drop from the one home that was taken to auction in the week ending 18 May 2025.

Cotality forecasts a further rise in auction volumes next week, with approximately 2,700 homes set to go under the hammer in the week ending 1 June 2025.
