From photocopied black and white brochures to online advertising, this professional has been part of the “digital evolution” in her 40 years of career in the real estate industry.
Angela Marciano, the marketing manager for LJ Hooker Kensington | Unley, recently marked her four-decade run in the industry under the same network — making her one of the brand’s longest-serving staff members.
Over the course of her career, the veteran has seen the industry go through a number of major changes and shake-ups. But perhaps, the most significant of these has been the rise of digital technology and its impact on the way that real estate is bought and sold, according to Ms Marciano.
“So much has happened over the 40 years both in work and at home. There has been so much change and pivotal moments that have completely evolved how we conduct real estate and achieve results for our customers,” she stated.
Ms Marciano started her career in real estate fresh out of high school, joining the agency with an interest in administration work. At the time, the LJ Hooker Kensington was smaller in size than it is today.
Giving a time-capsule look as to how real estate marketing operated when she started out in the space, Ms Marciano recalled brochures would be put together with scissors and glue and photocopied in black and white.
“Real estate agents would have to take their own property photos, ads were booked over the phone and marketing material had to be physically taken to the printers,” she shared.
While she acknowledged and holds a certain nostalgia for the good, old ways of doing things, she emphasises the value of staying current and utilising the marketing resources now available.
This includes support marketing specialists across brand, performance marketing and social media, as well as resources readily available to the LJ Hooker network to ensure they can deliver top-notch and innovative property marketing.
“The landscape is also different [and] more competitive, so it’s imperative that we have access to the tools and resources that will give us an edge,” she said.
And although Ms Marciano has earned her stripes in the field throughout her 40-year tenure, she highlighted that her best takeaway from the job is gaining a “work family”.
“I have made so many life-long friends at LJ Hooker; there has just never been a reason to leave because I really enjoy my job, there’s just never a dull moment,” Ms Marciano said.
Ms Marciano expressed her eagerness to share her extensive experience and knowledge with new staff members, whom she said have often “priceless” reactions when they learn about her four decades of service with the agency.
“A part of that is the support I’ve received from LJ Hooker to focus on my professional development and upskilling, so that I’m thriving and achieving my best work. And I love that I have the opportunity to share my knowledge through mentoring.
State manager for South Australia and Western Australia, Bill Dimou, has congratulated Ms Marciano on becoming one of the network’s longest-serving staff members.
“Angela is a wonderful employee and a true asset for the network. She is a very committed individual who cares about LJ Hooker and its customers. She has seen many changes over the decades but has continued to train and develop new skills, while sharing her wealth of experience with younger staff members. I know the team just adores her,” he said.
As for her future plans, Ms Marciano said she’s not planning on hanging up her real estate coat anytime soon.
“I really enjoy supporting our team and helping our customers achieve their goals. We all work hard but we have a lot of fun, so I may just get to 50 years of service yet,” she said.
