The professional body representing the real estate sector has announced Jacob Caine as its new president to guide the board in its continued support of the industry.

Jacob Caine has been announced as the Real Estate Institute of Australia’s (REIA's) new president, taking over from Leanne Pilkington ahead of upcoming industry changes.

The peak body said that Caine, who hailed from Victoria, was the Real Estate Institute of Victoria’s (REIV's) former interim-CEO and president, bringing a commitment to innovation, advocacy, and sustainable housing practices.

REIA said the leadership change signalled a new era as it gears up for upcoming property industry changes and opportunities.

“The board will continue to represent and support the real estate profession across the country while advocating for professional standards and the industry’s interests in key regulatory reforms,” it said.

The organisation said that its focus will be on continuing to represent the industry at the national level and ensuring real estate is seen as a valued profession within the community.

“With anti-money laundering reforms on the industry’s doorstep in 2026, we will continue to advocate for strong, practical regulatory outcomes and support for real estate,” it said.

REIA also said Pilkington had provided tireless advocacy, leadership, and expertise throughout her tenure as she guided the sector.

“The Institute thanks Leanne for her outstanding contribution to the real estate profession,” it concluded.
