A young aspiring agent has kickstarted his real estate career after connecting with a network at REB’s New Agent Academy, highlighting the importance of mentorship and honest advice.

Lachlan, an 18-year-old aspiring agent, has scored his real estate position with Elders Warragul in Victoria, just two weeks after initially connecting with the network at REB’s New Agent Academy.

At the event, Elders NSW franchise manager Roylene Reilly and her team offered complimentary 15-minute coaching sessions, attracting newcomers like Lachlan, who had no real estate experience but was eager to break into the industry.

What began as a brief conversation turned into a 45-minute coaching session the following week, focusing on Lachlan’s goals, career ambitions, and where he hoped to establish himself.

“We spoke about the long hours, door knocking, prospecting calls, letterbox drops and the relentless pushbacks and rejections that are part of the business,” she told REB.

Throughout the call, Reilly shared practical advice, including the importance of finding an agency with a supportive culture and strong mentorship, and provided an honest overview of the realities of a real estate career

She said that success in real estate didn’t happen overnight, and it was important that new entrants understood both its opportunities and challenges.

“I never sugar-coated it,” Reilly said.

Following the meeting, Lachlan began to test out the door-knocking dialogue he had learned, introduced himself to residents in his target area, and focused on building relationships and gaining confidence.

“It was when he called me back a second time, saying he’d met people in his target area and had started building relationships, that I knew this young man was determined,” Reilly said.

“Many people talk about wanting a career in real estate, but very few are willing to take immediate action. That level of initiative is exactly what sets future high performers apart.”

Lachlan continued to stay in contact with Elders, who later connected him with the team at its Warragul office, and he was able to successfully secure a position with the agency.

Reilly said that the New Agent Academy was about identifying genuine talent, providing honest guidance, creating opportunities, and helping passionate young people find a pathway into the industry.

“Lachlan earned this opportunity through his actions, and we’re excited to see where his career takes him,” she said.

According to Elders, Lachlan’s story also highlighted the importance of mentorship, transparency and investment in the next generation of talent.

“As the industry continues to evolve, stories like Lachlan’s demonstrate that determination, resilience, and a willingness to learn remain some of the most valuable qualities for aspiring agents,” the network said.
