A Victorian real estate professional who was caught trafficking a large quantity of illicit drugs has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison, with a judge blasting her actions.

A former property professional who stashed almost $1 million in illicit drugs and cash at her Port Melbourne home has been sentenced.

Tegan Miller, 30, appeared at the County Court of Victoria on Tuesday (30 June), where she was sentenced to a maximum of eight years and a half years in prison, with a non-parole period of five and a half years.

The mother of two had earlier pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking in a commercial quantity of drugs and recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime, before she was due to stand trial.

Previously, Miller had worked for Ray White, Century 21, and Pennisi Real Estate, and had also leased out cars to Uber drivers.

In October 2023, police arrived at Miller’s apartment to search the premises, seizing 1151.4 grams of methamphetamine, 135g of cocaine and 52.9g of MDMA, with an estimated street value of nearly $400,000.

Additionally, at her home and rental storage, they found a loaded handgun, $519,016 in cash, blank driver’s licences, bank cards in other people’s names, and an identity printing machine.

According to the Daily Mail, the court heard that Miller experienced a traumatic upbringing, but Judge Fiona Todd condemned her actions, telling her, “You are the author of this anguish”.

“The social consequences of drug use, the violence, decimation of families, and the human misery, are borne as the result of people who, like you, seek to exploit the vulnerable, the addicted, and the desperate,” she said.

The court also heard Miller will be allowed to hold onto her baby for a period of time while imprisoned at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

Todd said Miller would be burdened by the knowledge that she had orchestrated a “monumental disaster”, which would deny her children of their mother for a significant amount of time.

“That thought will haunt you every day you are in jail.”
