2 family businesses team up in commercial merger

A pair of Sunshine Coast commercial agencies have joined, bringing a combined 80 years of experience to their new venture.

LJ Hooker Commercial South West Queensland and Raine & Horne Commercial Sunshine Coast will come together under one roof under a brand-new name: LJ Hooker Commercial Sunshine Coast.

Mike and Julie Stewart, co-directors of LJ Hooker Commercial South West Queensland, have joined forces with David Smith, who was director of sales and leasing at his previous Raine & Horne Commercial firm.

Smith brings with him an impressive 44 years in commercial real estate, having first kicked off his career in the sector in 1980.

Husband and wife duo Mike and Julie Stewart also come with over three decades each of real estate experience.

“We’re thrilled to bring our team and David’s together under LJ Hooker Commercial Sunshine Coast,” said Mike Stewart.

“David’s worked in corporate agencies and as a business owner, responsible for many of the premium sales campaigns on the Sunshine Coast.”

Smith expressed equal enthusiasm about the joint venture, saying that he and the Stewarts “share the same family business values and commitment to client service”.

“Mike and Julie are influential members of the LJ Hooker Commercial network across Australia and I’m excited to work with them to offer our clients broader exposure, dynamic marketing solutions, and premium outcomes.”

Mike Stewart will remain managing director of the new venture, which will operate from LJ Hooker Commercial South West Queensland’s existing location at Alexandra Headland.

The team are keen to further expand their business offerings by leveraging connections with clients in the Sunshine Coast and beyond.

In their time at LJ Hooker Commercial South West Queensland, the Stewarts reported that they “have managed more than 50 commercial development projects – all the way through to their sales and leasing campaigns – including the Sydney Town Hall Square redevelopment, numerous site acquisitions for Aldi in Queensland and even international projects in Fiji and China”.

“We’ve developed extensive connections along the way which benefit our clients, whether they’re divesting, leasing or expanding their portfolio,” said Mike Stewart.

Going forward, the team hopes to leverage these extensive relationships to give their clients broader reach.

They also hope to offer investors a wide range of services including sales, leasing, on-the-ground property management, asset optimisation insights, and maintenance programs to protect their assets in years to come.
