Despite a challenging real estate market across the country, one niche group in Victoria is looking to expand its network and deepen its footprint across some of its key target markets.

Barry Plant Group is looking to expand its pool of sellers, PMs and support staff.

CEO Mike McCarthy said there are an estimated 150-plus roles to fill throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.

“As the real estate market is currently tough, many businesses are shedding staff,” he said.

“However, we see this as an ideal opportunity to grow our networks for the future. We recently surveyed our franchisees and identified 156 opportunities across the group.”

Mr McCarthy said the initiative follows Barry Plant’s positive January results.

He said there was an increase in buyers attending open for inspections and an increase in sales by 12 per cent, despite the reported 22 per cent market downturn.

“Increased auction clearances for the group, coupled with 93.4 per cent clearance rate within nine days of auction, are a positive trend to the market for 2019,” Mr McCarthy said.

“With strong January results across the network, and increasing demand from buyers, our offices wish to maintain excellent customer service and client satisfaction by investing in people to achieve the best possible results now and over the coming years.”

Late last year, the Barry Plant group held its group awards to recognise the group’s top performers.

The Geelong office, along with its high-performance agent Chari Emirzade, did well taking out a raft of sales, property management and franchisee awards.

The Rowville, Mitchell Shire and Manningham offices were also recognised for their achievements.

Mr McCarthy said at the time that he was delighted with both the event and the results.

“Even though it’s been a challenging market, we’ve continued to achieve outstanding results, proving, I believe, that when the market does get tough, sellers look for a well-established brand with a history of success to sell their property.

“The other great outcome was that there were so many new award winners this year. People who have been part of our group for several years who’ve taken advantage of our training, systems and mentoring and are now flourishing and writing big numbers.”
