Success is such a beautiful word. Just hearing it inspires us to work harder towards our goals. However, why is it that not everyone gets to achieve it?

Whether it be personal or business success, it seems that only a few get to taste it. The list of reasons why success is elusive is a long one. It can be the timing. Maybe it’s not the right time to go after that business idea. It can also be the current state of the economy or maybe you don’t have enough capital to pursue a business venture. Or maybe the problem lies with you.

Wanting to succeed is not enough. If it is, then everyone would be successful. Unfortunately, life does not work that way. Yes, it does offer a lot of opportunities, but you have to do your part to grab those opportunities and succeed in them. You have to be committed and put in the work behind it. To start you on your journey to success, you have to ask yourself, “Am I ready to succeed?” Do you have the right mindset for the long and hard journey? What are the things you should avoid that will hinder you from achieving your goals?

Ignorance

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” — Socrates

The world is constantly changing and you have to be willing and ready to learn. Whichever industry you are in, you have to be always updated on the things that will affect your business. What worked before may not be viable in a few years or even months from now. Find time in your busy schedule to learn new things. Read about the latest tech and marketing trends, as these two can change overnight. Knowledge is power and no amount of determination can make you succeed without it.

Excuses

“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” — Jordan Belfort

Stop making excuses. One of the biggest hindrances to success is the habit of making excuses. “I am not ready.” “I don’t have the skills.” “I can’t do it.” Those thoughts are just self-imposed limitations. Why are you limiting yourself? If you don’t have the skills, then start learning those skills. If you don’t have the resources, then find ways to get those resources. Problems have solutions if you are willing to look for them. Change your mindset from “cannot” to “can”.
