Classifying business into a three point scale can help create “good growth”, attendants at Barry Plant Group's Kick Start conference heard recently.

Hundreds of property managers converged on the Convention Centre in Melbourne last month for the annual Kick Start conference that focuses on personal and business motivation.

According to Kerry Fraser, property management consultant of Barry Plant Group, being number one in Victoria property management has many advantages. However, to ensure a business is developing with “good growth” a principal should rank clients, tenants, landlords and properties on an A-B-C scale.

“The difference when gaining new business is what I consider good growth or bad growth,” Mr Fraser explains.

“Many property managers want to be number one and forget about growing in a positive way.

“I use an A-B-C scale to rank our clients and properties.

“If you can rank a tenant, landlord and the property as an A, then that is good growth - you want to be aiming for this.

“However, if they all fall into the C category then that means the management of that property will be a headache, businesses don’t need this.

“It’s not growth for growth's sake.”

Other speakers at the event include Josh Phegan and new property management consultant, Yvonne Martin.

During the 2011/2012 financial year there was an 8.75 per cent increase in properties under management compared to the same time last year.

Mr Fraser believes Barry Plant’s property management division’s success and growth is as a result of the professional level of service and training that has been implemented throughout the group over the last five years.
