Lifelong learning key to keeping up with change

Education and creating the ‘ideal culture’ for your business is the key to growing in a changing and dynamic sector, according to an industry coach.

Speaking with Residential Property Manager, director of Blayney Potential Plus Fiona Blayney said as more demands are heaped onto property managers, it’s important to work from the ground up.

“Both society and technology continues to evolve, and with it the format of business and the roles we all play within it," she said.

“We can assume that technology will factor heavily, service demands will continue to increase, profit margins will become tighter, and the market and competition will remain fierce. The only way you will keep up and avoid becoming obsolete is by engaging with lifelong learning.”

According to Ms Blayney, without adapting to change, the role of the property manager is at risk.

“Personal education and training is fundamental to success on every level, or you may remain the technician who can repair transistor radios. What are they? You may ask. I suppose that’s my point,” she said.

Business owners need to "get off the tools" and drive their business, or bring someone in who can.

“Key features of success - and as such learning required for the same - will include increasing profitability, recruitment and retention, and most importantly how to create and retain the 'ideal culture' for your business.”
