Friday funnies: Don't get too close

Every Friday, RPMonline will feature a story from a property manager on the ground. This week’s story comes from Marcel Dybner, BDM at Thomson Property in Murrumbeena, VIC.

The thing I love most about my job is that every landlord and every tenant has a story. If I had to pick just one story to share, it would be about one of the first properties I listed.

It had been on the market for a number of weeks and we just couldn’t get it leased. After trying everything, we finally received an application. But after doing all of the reference checks, we couldn’t get a hold of the tenant. No replies to emails, mobile phone was off, so I just assumed she wasn’t interested.

Later that week, I received a call from the applicant telling me she had fallen ill and was in hospital and was still keen on the property. So I put together all of the paperwork, and made my way down to the hospital to get the property leased.

Everything was going well, the paperwork was done, the tenant was happy and I knew the landlord was going to be rapped. As I was about to leave, the tenant asked me if I had all my immunisation shots as a child because she may be contagious if I hadn’t.

She proceeded to warn me that if I find it hard to swallow and feel my throat closing in then I should call an ambulance or get to the closest emergency department ASAP!

Safe to say, as soon as I walked out of the hospital I quickly phoned my mum, who assured me I had all my shots and I’d survive.

Property managers all have a tale or two to tell – and we want to hear them! They can be quirky, funny or downright terrifying. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
