BDM and trainer offers tips on motivation and success

Juggling the roles of a BDM and industry trainer means prioritising all activities while still allowing room to adapt, according to one property manager.

Kasey McDonald, who was recently inducted into the LJ Hooker Captains Club, said a key to her success is support from family and friends, as well as regularly setting goals for herself.

“I do spend the time to work out a priority level for each goal, and by that I mean I break down my role with the specific tasks and set targets based on each activity,” she told RPM.

“I am a big believer of KPIs and I monitor each activity I perform so I can see where I am spending my time and what is working and what is not.”

In managing her BDM role with her position as a trainer with the BDM Academy, Ms McDonald said being organised, planning and structure is paramount to working efficiently.

“I set appointments like my gym, prospecting time, attending sales meetings, those types of appointments that are consistent and that I must attend," she said.

“And then I leave space blank for appraisals or mentoring phone meetings.”

Ms McDonald said structure is important, but property managers need to also be flexible and adapt to different people’s expectations.

“I also have days where I start a bit later and finish late and other days where I start early and finish early; I do this for work-life balance as well,” she said.

“In the past, and with modern technology, I have made myself available 24/7 to clients, realising that work quickly took over.”
