One McGrath office is launching an appeal to help support the homeless population in their area.

McGrath Springfield has launched its inaugural Help the Homeless Appeal to support local charity Goodna Street Life Helping Hands Centre.

The office is collecting non-perishables, sanitary items, tinned food and more, to be stocked in a vending machine for the homeless.

One of the Springfield principals, Tracey Caruana, said that many do not have the luxury to purchase homes and they needed help from the community.

“Every day our role as real estate agents is to find a home for people, whether that’s one to buy or one to rent, but we also understand for a variety of reasons many in our community don’t have that luxury,” Ms Caruana said.

Ms Caruana said that heading into the cooler months, it was especially important that the disadvantaged had access to food and warmer clothes.

“As we head towards the cooler months, the team at McGrath Springfield will be collecting donations to help those within the region who need it the most,” the co-principal said.

Co-principal Steve Hodgson said that many people had started to drop in products to the office, some even coming in with trolleys.

“We have found that by tapping into the spirit of the community, we have been able to help those in need on a much larger scale. The support has been so heartening, and I’d like to thank everyone in the community for their generous donations,” Mr Hodgson said.

The vending machines will stock items that can be purchased for 10 cents and will help the community’s most vulnerable.

Mr Hodgson said that the machines are a respectful way to help those in need while providing them with the privacy they deserve.

“The initiative seemed like such a respectful way to help and provide those in need with the dignity and privacy that they deserve. Tracey and I wanted to provide our support to the organisation, so we decided to launch this appeal to help fill the machines, which are refilled daily,” Mr Hodgson said.

Residents can drop off donation items at the McGrath Springfield office until 8 June.
