Real estate offices looking to grow their business should look internally and coach their own people into becoming the best they can be, advises an industry leader.

In a recent episode of the Secrets of the Top 100 Agents podcast, LJ Hooker’s network chief, Graeme Hyde, shared the formula to creating a high-performing office.

“I think being disciplined and diligent around your approach, staying ethical, [with] high integrity in what you do, I actually think every market is a great opportunity for great performing people,” Mr Hyde said.

The real estate guru also highlighted the importance of developing staff, with collaboration and sharing the best way for the industry as a whole to move forward.

“The ones that are doing really well have a great culture in their business, they are very much focused people and on the career path of their team.

“They don’t treat people as employees but as people that are part of a team.”

Mr Hyde highlighted the importance of management moving beyond an old-school autocratic leadership style, with career development and teams showing stronger results.

“I think that is really important these days because the whole business model of having a boss mentality has changed completely. I think it is now about leadership and coaching,” he said.

“That creates cultures that are high-performance cultures. Certainly, our top 50–80 offices, if you put those business leaders outside of real estate into another business, they would do extremely well.

“They are just people’s people and they show great leadership, and I think great leadership is the most sought-after resource you can have in any business.”

Finally, Mr Hyde, who is in the top five salesmen at LJ Hooker, provided others tips on transforming from great salespeople to becoming great leaders.

“The secret is it comes from within. If you’re a person that cares about other people’s success and puts them first.

“It’s not everyone. It depends on your DNA.

“If you’re a person who cares about people more than money, you never have to worry about money in your life.”
