As 2023 comes to a close, leaders from a Victorian network have prepped themselves for the new year with a unique tropical retreat.

How do you become a better leader? It’s a question that weighs on the minds of many executives in the real estate industry, and Victorian brand Stockdale & Leggo is forging forward with an ingenious solution they say brings the best out of their people in a post-COVID-19 world.

The group revealed it has recently sent its executives on a three-day retreat and business conference on Hamilton Island to enable its leaders to build strong working relationships away from day-to-day interruptions.

According to director and CEO Charlotte Pascoe, the retreat provided an essential opportunity to recharge and reconnect in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After a chaotic three years of virtual meetings and remote working, we felt that it was the perfect time to bring back these retreat events that allow our agents to focus on their work without added distractions,” said Ms Pascoe.

“It’s so important to take time away from the office to recharge and reset so that our agents can get back into business as better leaders with a renewed energy and focus,” the CEO added.

As well as providing a much-welcomed break from the stresses of daily life, Ms Pascoe stated that the retreat offered the opportunity to connect with colleagues that employees may not usually interact with, fostered the development of leadership skills in a more informal and authentic way, and boosted corporate culture by providing a memorable experience for employees.

Julie Ford, Hamilton Island’s business events sales director, revealed that Stockdale & Leggo is not the only business who has been looking into corporate retreat programs as a way to boost productivity.

She shared that several organisations have begun looking into these programs now that team members are returning to the office and tourism is back in full swing.

“A different environment fosters creativity and team bonding that an everyday office environment does not,” Ms Ford explained.

“Post-COVID, people are all about work/life balance and looking for companies that appreciate them by taking them away and encouraging collaborative planning.”

Looking forward, Stockdale & Leggo plans to turn their Business in Paradise retreats into a regular staple on the company calendar, with the next retreat planned for Port Douglas early next year.

“The program is now an integral part of the company’s strategy for future success,” concluded Ms Pascoe.
